Rewrite

Finally I never made a new release, but i decided to make a rewrite in Qt. It will have a very stable base, all other features are implemented through plugins: filters, tools, import/export plugins, etc.

Why Qt?
Qt is a more complete set, it provides 2d animations and is more platform independent.

The name will also be changed, but I am not sure yet.

The new app will be full with new features, more stable, better looks, will run on any system.

Check for updates, work is already in progress.

Version 0.6 nearby

I almost got the final features of intipunku 0.6 running stable.
New features include:
- full support for geotagging
- browse photos on the map instead of a table
- improved appearence
- support for overriding system themes, like for the dust theme it will show a black toolbar
- when selecting multiple photos it will automatically configure a transitional background on gnome. In the settings you can configure the duration of each photo. Currently it only works on gnome, but KDE and others could be implemented later on.
- intipunku has become fully threaded. At first intipunku ran everything only in two threads, the main thread (interface) and a thread scanning your photos every 5 seconds. An activity manager has now been introduced that takes care of other threads. For example, you may want to continue browsing photos while creating a panorama, before that was not posible, now the activity manager just puts the panorama creation in the background. The same counts for uploading photos to picasaweb albums. Other functions still need to be recoded to use the activity manager.

Mark

geotagging

Geotagging is a feature that has been implemented in intipunku already for a couple of months. However, I never completed the feature. Currently, I have been made some good progress finishing geotagging and implementing a mapview. From the mapview, you can manage your photos just as in the map/tag view, however, you will be managing them from the earths map!

After completing the geotagging function, I believe it is time for intipunku to become mature. Intipunku is considerably the photomanager that offers the most amount of features any photo managing program has. However in some ways it has been unstable and features are not fine-tuned. Therefore it is now of great concern to improve this so that intipunku is ready to conquer the linux desktop. The community would be of great help, use the launchpad page to file feature request and bugs!

Intipunku runs also on win32 and osx (amazingly) however I decided due to time limitations that focus will now primarily go to linux. Linux is the only desktop people should run in the first place! Windows distributions of intipunku sometimes do not run on vista or windows 7 and I am not motivated to buy all these windows versions. The OSX gtk port is still unstable and does not integrate well with the system. The auther of the port has sort of stopped maintaining the project and therefore intipunku cannot rely on it anymore, maybe one day i will continue.

release 0.54

Yesterday I released 0.54 for Ubuntu Karmic. This release is basically a bug fix release, something ceased to work.

Since I am very busy, I only uploaded the karmic deb. If you want to have to latest code, do a code checkout and build it yourself ;) Sorry for the discomfort.

Progress

It has been a while since some activity. However many things have been going on in the intipunku development.
* MacOSX release is improving, I still did not get video to play under OSX so this remains a blocker for it's release.
* A new feature is getting form, geotagging. The basic functionanilty work and photos can get geotagged and being displayed on a map. I m still figuring out how to integrate things nice and graphically.
* Bugs are continued to get fixed.

Due to mayor new feature the next intipunku release will be 0.60

0.52

Dear people,

I released 0.52. This is mainly a bugfix release, however I implemented a small feature, lossless rotation. Enable it in preferences and install jpegtran (libjpeg-progs i think).

Greetings,

Mark
